The second course in the Certified Public-Safety Executive program builds on the strengths of the introductory course. Having achieved a solid foundation in the first course, they can move forward developing stronger leadership skills in areas of: honing personal style; forging bonds with stakeholders; framing the work context; supporting followers; and taking responsibility. This course will give special attention to the challenges of leadership for change and innovation.
The Introduction to the Certified Public-Safety Executive program provides students with an overview of major themes in executive leadership. Themes include environmental issues in which the organization must operate, and internal issues necessary to the functioning of the organization. Students then progress through the distinctive concepts of leadership so that they can examine models and approaches to the exercise of leadership. In the final weeks of the course, students focus on the details of situational leadership and adaptive leadership, the emerging leadership issues of the 21st century and the essential role of ethics in leadership.
